So, what is love? This pure love, which so many Christians do
not fully understand or have a complete grasp of. We must turn to Scripture, God's Word, and
see how love is defined. What I find we
should look at is the example of Jesus’ life, the love He showed to everyone He
came into contact with throughout His entire ministry here on earth, and then
we also turn to the following breakdown of love from the Bible:
"Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does
not boast, it is not proud. It is not
rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of
wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but
rejoices with the truth. It always
protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails. But where there are
prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled;
where there is knowledge, it will pass away." 1
CORINTHIANS 13:4-8
We can see from this passage of Scripture that we find no
mention of a love that is of the emotional type. Emotions come and go, depending on how we may
feel at any particular time. This pure
love that we are commanded by God to have is an action that we MUST do. So let me ask you this: Where are you going to get your definition of
love from, God’s Word? Or this world? Who do you serve this day?
"Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes
from God. Everyone who loves has been
born of God and knows God. Whoever does
not love does not know God, because God is love." 1
JOHN 4:7-8
